Waking Up Well: Trinity Mouzon Wofford’s Sacred Mornings Upstate

Welcome to Waking Up Well, a column where we hand-select people we admire and ask them to share how they start the day. We think morning routines are a crucial part of an intentional wellness journey and we’re fascinated by the practices of our favorite figures.
Trinity Mouzon Wofford founded Golde alongside her partner, Issey Kobori, in 2017 — since then, it’s expanded from one product, their Organic Turmeric Latte Blend, to a line of superfood essentials to nourish you inside and out. With the brand’s rising success, Trinity became the youngest woman of color to launch a brand in Sephora. We love how she balances business smarts and a commitment to thoughtful living. Her Instagram offers conscious recommendations, scenes of her family life, and reminders to appreciate the beauty in everyday moments — and we can’t look away. It’s inspiring to see how she’s shaped her life around wellbeing.
Trinity is a big homebody, and her mornings reflect that. She works from home with her husband on Golde — and there’s usually a rotating family member staying in the guest room, looking after their two-year-old daughter, Ruby. Based in the Hudson Valley, the couple lives about an hour from where they both grew up. (They’re high school sweethearts!) With a business and a family, mornings are never exactly quiet, but Trinity does consider them sacred. The one thing that’s always prioritized is sitting down to breakfast together as a family, even if it’s for something quick. If that means a regularly scheduled shower falls by the wayside, it’s worth it to make time for togetherness in the hectic day-to-day.
We checked in with her shortly before she welcomed her second child, Maia, into the world earlier this month. (Congratulations to the whole family!)
6:30am | Tatami time 💤
I don’t ever use an alarm clock — I find it really jarring and unnecessary. Usually I wake up around 6:30, or whenever my daughter is up. We share a family bed, which I love. My husband was born in Japan and he convinced me to make the switch to sleeping on the floor in a traditional futon-and-tatami setup. It makes it so easy for all of us to spread out (which is especially important as a pregnant person!).
7:00am | Simple hydration 🧂
The three of us usually spend a few minutes hanging out before we actually get up and out of bed. From there, I make my way downstairs and head to my Berkey Filter for a big glass of water with salt for rehydration.
8:00am | Savory brekkie & matcha 🍵
While I’m looking after Ruby and tidying up, Issey gets breakfast going. Sitting together to eat is a non-negotiable for us, no matter how wild the rest of the day is. My favorite simple and easy breakfast is full-fat yogurt topped with olive oil, sesame seeds, and a bit of flakey salt. Issey makes us a loaf of sourdough bread every week, so I’ll usually have yogurt with a slice of that. Breakfast is often accompanied by a hot matcha, which gives me just the right buzz of energy to power through the next few hours.
8:30am | Skincare moment 🧴
After breakfast, I head upstairs with Ruby to get both of us dressed and ready for the day. I really treasure taking a few minutes for my skincare routine. I noticed that as life got really full, I was skipping washing my face and just splashing some water on there. I figured, hey, I’m not breaking out, so who cares? But I realized that I *missed* that little moment of me time. So now I really make a point to do it. I have a few face washes that I rotate between — I love Vintner’s Daughter‘s new cleanser (luxury!), the Refining Cleanser from Lesse (exfoliation!), or Weleda‘s Gentle Cleansing Milk (my crunchy budget pick). After that, I follow with a face oil while my skin is still damp. My favorites are from Supernal, Vintner’s Daughter, and Mount Sapo.
9:00 am | Ad hoc WFH setup 💻
I’m all dressed and ready for work! My big commute = walking to the dining room table to get my laptop set up for the day. I’m hoping to get a proper home office set up in the house, but all in good time.
