From Our Founder

A decade into running women’s lifestyle media platform, The Good Trade, I had the great joy of welcoming a daughter into my family. Like many women, my transition to motherhood included some difficulty. I experienced Hyperemesis Graviderium in my pregnancy, followed by a postpartum depression diagnosis which was further heightened by the stress and isolation of the pandemic. Where energy and inspiration had once flowed with ease, I found myself struggling to sustain the daily life demands. I had a career and family that I loved, but felt utterly depleted.

During this time I was drawn to surprising insights deep within biohacking reddit threads, wellness tech reviews, pop science podcasts, and peer reviewed studies. Emerging technologies like sleep trackers, fitness trackers, and continuous glucose monitors, eventually supported me in restablishing the foundational pillars of my health quality sleep, nutrition, and movement. Simple daily rituals of sunlight, meditation, and deliberate heat and cold exposure also had measurable impacts on my mental wellbeing and continue to anchor me in peace and the present moment.

I found the relief I was seeking, but throughout my research process it was evident that women, people of color, and aging populations are often underrepresented (or excluded entirely) within wellness science literature, discourse, and authority. Drawing on over a decade of experience in digital publishing and our team’s award-winning expertise in creating inclusive, accessible content, I knew we could deliver high-quality gear reviews inclusive of gender, lifestyle, background, and budget, for a broad audience.

Through Good Gear, we seek to empower readers with thoughtful reviews of evidenced based technologies that will contribute to your wellbeing. At the heart of our values is the belief that in order to care for your community, you must first care for yourself.
